The Benefits of Martial Arts for Children
Martial arts teach children self defense as well as discipline. It builds up self esteem and character and teaches respect for others.
The self esteem comes from mastering new skills and being able to move up. New belts are given based on accomplishments and everyone is responsible for their own success. When a child is able to move up to the next level, they can be proud that they were able to accomplish their goals honestly and without a handout. They also gain the confidence that they will be able to defend themselves if they find themselves in a bad situation. Often this self esteem boost leads to better grades and a more out going attitude.
Martial arts also teach children how to respect themselves and others. Children are encouraged to solve conflicts with words instead of violence. Kids in martial arts are taught to never use their skills offensively, only defensively. This means they won’t use there skills to bully other children. They are also taught the importance of self-discipline and responsibility for their actions.
Many martial arts teachers develop bonds with their pupils and work with them to make sure they succeed in life. A lot of children begin martial arts at a young age so the instructor is able to watch them grow through the years. They take a vested interest in the child and are dedicated to the success of the child. They do not allow the child the take the easy way out and always push them to the best of there ability.
